It’s become a tradition that we wait for with baited breath. Each year Pantone selects a color of the year. And, 2016 is o different than previous years. This year, however, a dynamic duo of color has been selected.
Drum rolls please… the Pantone 2016 Colors of the Year is Rose Quartz and Serenity. These colors represent the softer side of life, as they are both muted pastel colors. Rose quartz is a really light pastel pink while Serenity is a “cooler tranquil blue” Paired together, they have an uncanny symbiotic relationship with each other as they reflect “connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace,” said Leatrice Eiseman Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute®. How great would it be to have a year full of that in 2016?
An interesting reason for selecting this pair was the “gender blur” that is being experienced in different parts of the world. This has had an impact on all facets of design. Designers are able to be more creative in their choices with this trend as it opens the door for more color pairings across the board without the societal judgments or typecasts. As pet fashion people, this isn’t a new concept as there have been many times that a male dog has walked down the runway in what would be considered female colors and outfits.
This year it’s as if Pantone selected the colors more based on some political undertones versus strictly looking at fashion trends as they have done in the past. These two colors are said to reflect the “culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude.” On their site, Pantone says that Rose Quartz “conveys compassion and a sense of composure” while Serenity is “weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing the feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.”
Being a pet person, I love the idea of compassion and weightlessness. How great would it be if we were entering into a year where we seek to understand different beings of all types. We would all feel so much lighter and less weighted down energetically. How does it get any better than that?
You can go to the Pantone website and get several of the suggested complementary colors AND you can get some swag with the colors of the year.
